When I left Almeida on Friday morning, I tried to visit Trancoso, a lovely walled town, but the rain was so strong, I decided to skip the visit and drive directly to Porto.

Without Carmen, I would still be looking for the hotel Residencial dos Aliados located in the very center of the historical part of town. Under the rain, I walked towards the river, while waiting for Scott to arrive by train from Lisboa.

On Saturday, we walked for one hour os so, while waiting for breakfast, and drove to Guimarães (covered in the next section) and Braga. We got back in time for dinner - again under a nasty rain - in the touristic Ribeira area.

We spent Sunday visiting churches, photographing the decaying old town, stilled filled with beautiful old store signing, and we crossed the river to view the city from Gaia.

A word of advice: make sure you have a Francesinha, the typical sandwich from Porto before you leave.
